Tribewanted is happy to announce our partnership with Survival International to help tribal peoples around the world. Tribewanted members can participate in the movement when joining Tribewanted or from their user profile.

Survival International fights for tribes everywhere

Survival is the only international organisation supporting tribal peoples worldwide.

From Brazil to Siberia, these unique but vulnerable communities are all too often desperately struggling for their land, their livelihoods and their very existence.

Oil exploration, government oppression, mining, missionaries and many other threats are continually putting these peoples in danger.

An effective movement

With supporters in 82 countries, we work for tribal peoples’ rights in three complementary ways: education, advocacy and campaigns.

We believe that public opinion is the most effective force for change. Its power will make it harder, and eventually impossible, for governments and companies to oppress tribal peoples.

Over the years our work has succeeded in establishing land rights for and bringing global attention to tribes like the Jarawa of the Andaman Islands in India.

We have also targeted Western countries, though, such as the time when we hung a banner from the top of Nelson’s Column facing the Canadian High Commission, in response to their government’s treatment of the Innu people.

Tribewanted on side with Survival

Tribewanted has joined the movement to stand up for tribal peoples who may otherwise be entirely wiped out.

We ask all Tribewanted members to get involved and support us in making sure that tribes the world over get the rights and respect they deserve.

How do I get involved?

Tribe members are invited to join Survival International when they join Tribewanted or from their profile page. A £10 Survival Donation will give people a one years membership to the charity and you will receive an info pack about the campaigns your money will be supporting.

Have i missed something between Ben’s blog of 10 days ago and this one where we have joined Survival? was there any discussion about what joining would mean if we really take it seriously? or any other talk about this?

Hi Avril – yes after posting the blog I asked for people’s thoughts. It is up to each member whether they support Survival International – there is no obligation. Since we went live with this yesterday, six new members have joined Tribewanted – three have added Survival membership, three haven’t.

OK Thanks Ben I must have missed out there!!
Any ideas of how tribewanted as a ‘tribe’ is going to get involved – or can get involved? If things go that way? Numbers do make a difference!!
