Jenni Prentice's December 2008 Chief Manifesto

Why would I like to be Chief?
There’s been a bit of a joke on the island, regarding when/if I will ever leave?! I love this place and of course the people!! I’ve been on the island for the past 4 weeks and a half weeks and had one of the best experience’s of my life…but I still feel I have so much more to give and learn from this place. After lots of fun, frolics and hammock time, I feel it’s time for a new challenge and I’m keen to become even more involved in the running of the project.
Also with festive period (and my birthday, as it happens!) approaching, I can’t think of a better place/time to be chief.
What, other than my skills, makes me the right person for the job?
During my time on Vorovoro, I had a chance to develop some great friendships with both tribe members and team fiji. I am keen to use my positive, smiley energy to drive projects forward, help motivate the team and add to the festive cheer:)
What would I achieve as chief?
With the rainy season fast approaching, much to Pupu’s delight – I think the theme for December is a given – water, water, water!
That includes:- Implementing water storage solutions
- Water-proofing, storm proofing and general maintenance on buildings
- Working on the sustainability of the gardens, so that hopefully one day the plants will start singing back to Leavi:)
- Amy’s shower mosaic project – involving the collection and categorisation of lots of shells to enable an exciting/ambitious mosaic design
- Indoor/Grand Bure activities – Time to put my arts degree to the test and get some of those artsm projects finished – In the pipeline – designing the official shop signage for the official T.W shop, also known as ‘Amy’s boutique’!
- And with a christmas slant, I think it could be quite apt to establish Santa’s Grotto on the island, maybe using one of the existing buildings. I think Pupu/Leavi would make a great Fijian Santa Claus!
As chief, I will be given a small pot of money with which to leave my legacy. How will I spend it?
It’s going to depend on November’s success with water storage – I would put high priority on supporting the water storage and then I would like to see money going to all things creative amidst the indoor rainy season projects – we really need paints, brushes etc for these activities to take place.
Projects that have been mentioned:- Sophie’s Voro voro family tree
- Creating a green toilet cubicle – that will be full of facts and images on the walls.
- Tribe Members World Map
Tell us something interesting about yourself…
I first drove a car when I was 8 years old…one for the grog mat!
In one sentence, why should I be chief?
Scotland to be chief:)

Cheers Jenni, glad to have someone already in tight with the tribe up for December. I was there last year in Dec and that is quite a big role during Christmas week!
If you want to finish off the world map I started as chief I have all the countries in an email – I can forward it to you if you want to do that as a rainy day project.
Love that you are water focused too! That will be great!
Cheers :)
Oh Jenni, it seems like a long long time ago, Martin and I were on the Island. Our stay in Fiji was magical in many ways, and has definitely left a mark on our lives, and a strong bond with the people there. We will definitely be coming home hehe. It was people like you, Kelly, Kate, Cally and of course the team that made it so. I’m so glad you’re having the best time, you so deserve it, and I wish you all the best over the festive season with the Island. GO GO GO!!! My votes in!
Bula sia all!!!
