Kit
Bula all, just after some info on if I need to bring things like a hammock or other items, can anyone who has visited the island recently get in touch and tell me what they would have taken if they had to go back again, rather get it now than sit and think I`d wish I`d bought it in the first place

Hey Jason,
I’m living on Vorovoro now, so I’ll tell you some things people have wished they had brought:
a decent headlamp/headtorch
good batteries (preferably recharagable) as the batteries in Labasa may say “long life”, but they aren’t!
a bigger (or 2nd) memory card for the camera
tshirts and shorts you don’t mind getting dirty
long pants for (combats or jeans) for evenings to keep the mozzies away
long sleeve tshirt for same
That’s all I can think of at the moment…
There are hammocks in different spots thoughout the TW village, but they aren’t really suitable for sleeping unless you want to get eater alive in your sleep. If you really want to sleep in a hammock outside, try getting a hammock tent – some are just mossie net hammocks, so you can see the stars – well worth it. Try www.hennessyhammock.com
hope that helps some,
see you Vorovoro!

Other things: antiseptic cream, tweezers (buy them in Labasa, you won’t be allowed to take them on the flight I suspect), citronella anti-mosquito stuff (worked best for me), rollmat.
I’d reiterate what Carol says about a headtorch and spare batteries. Also – old clothes rather than expensive new ones you don’t want to keep clean.
In Labasa, when you buy your sulu, see if you can get a bula shirt too (one of the gaudy floral ones). Fijians seem to wear them on all formal occasions.
